Be the Light Art Journal Page – Video at bottom of page!
I’m in a private group with some friends and our challenge this month (I’m the only one that does art jounaling) was “Be the Light”. So I though on it, and what would be cuter than lightning bugs helping a little boy find his puppy? Nothing that is what!!
I started with somewhat blank pages. They did have some writing on them with pencil from some brainstorming I had done years ago. As well the page on the left had roll over from the previous pages glues in’s. This makes for some pretty edges!!
Stencils Used on Be the Light:
I couldn’t find the beginning mandala type stencil, I think I got it at Walmart but who knows? The other two are from Dylusions and I got both of them off of Amazon at separate times. BE AWARE… both of them came bent (separate shipments too!) the smaller one I had to have them send me another as it was unusable – AND it was in BOX packaged with other items, and the other items were just fine meaning SOMEONE HAND WADED IT UP.
The second stencil, the largest one with flowers on the border, was lightly bent BY THE MAIL LADY when she put it in the mailbox. HOWEVER, Amazon should not have used a bendable envelope to send it in! PRIME isn’t always prime shipping!! Anyway, above are the two other stencils I used, first time for both I think!
I like to save both time and money when I’m doing art. Don’t get me wrong I don’t mind drawing and cutting out my own art, just sometimes I want to work faster and with a different type of freedom. That’s why I purchased my Silhouette Portrait 2 Machine and I LOVE IT! I got it to cut paper but most people use it to cut vinyl and make bumper stickers, t- shirts and funny sayings on everything they own!
So, as you can tell I cut the bees out using my Silhouette Machine. I wanted LIGHTNING BUGS though, so I used my Xacto tool and transformed them! (see the video below of this in action!)
I also used the machine to cut out all the words, the grass, the boy and the puppy. These are just SILHOUETTES! I myself hand drew in the details as I felt. The boy was so much fun!!
COLORING WITH WATER PENCILS
One of my go to’s is water color pencils! LOVE them! I used them in most every art journal page!! Here I am using them to color the boy and the puppy! I also am sure to use a water coloring pen brush. It contains water INSIDE OF IT! You simply color whatever it is (like I am doing with the boy above), then pop out your brush and start coloring. SUPER SIMPLE! The exact products I used are shown below!
The POP FACTOR
One of my most favorite EVER pens that I use is Sakura/Glaze Gel Pens! The black 3 dimensional! I try and have at least a half dozen on hand at all times because I go through them like crazy!!
See how the BLACK PENS make the words just POP???
